FIREFIGHTERS warned people to clean their clothes dryers after a fire severely damaged a Cessnock hair salon.

The fire happened on Saturday at 12.45pm at Tangles Hairdressers in Vincent St, when towels in a dryer caught alight.

Firefighters had to wear breathing apparatus.

`The heat burst the plastic hoses attached to the washing machine,' Brad See, from the NSW Fire Brigade said.

`People must ensure the lint is cleaned from the dryer regularly,' Cessnock fire station officer Brett Schultz said.
